This set of instructions will guide you through the process of installing system Unicode Tibetan keyboard(s) for Mac OS 10.3 or higher. Most visitors will be most interested in the Wylie method available. You need to have a Unicode Tibetan font already installed on your machine to make any use of the keyboards. At the time of this writing, the only publically available font which can render Tibetan Unicode correctly on Mac OS X is Xenotype Tibetan. Some other Unicode Tibetan fonts do not work completely on the Tiger OS (such as Tibetan Machine Uni), but this will likely change in later developments of Mac system software.

ཡིག་ཆ་དང་མ་དཔེ་ཚང་མ་འདི་ནས་རིན་མེད་སྤྱི་སྤྱོད་ཁོངས་སུ་འཇུག་གཏོང་བྱ་དགོས་རྒྱུ། བཤུ་འཇུག་ཁོངས་སུ་ཡོད་པའི་ཆོག་མཆན་ཡིག་ཆ་ལ་ཟུར་བལྟ་བྱེད་རོགས།
Step - 1 Downloading
རིམ་པ་དང་པོ། བཤུ་འཇུག་བྱེད་པ།
First, download the OSXTibetanChrisWalker.zip file, 637k (or the OSXTibetanChrisWalker.dmg file, 2.5mb) from TibetanPortal.com. I originally scripted this keyboard file in the middle of year 2005, and it has subsquently matured through the helpful comments and advice of several people. A big thanks to those who helped make this keyboard script ready for public release!
Once you have the file OSXTibetanChrisWalker zip or disk image file, click on it to start installing on your system.

If you downloaded the disk image file, it may mount automatically on your desktop, otherwise mount it yourself.
སྡེར་ཙེ་ཕད་ཚོགས་དེ་རང་འགུལ་གྱིས་ཁྱེད་རང་གི་པྲ་ཅོག་ངོས་ལ་ཤར་སྲིད། དེ་མིན་ཁྱེད་རང་གིས་ཤར་བ་བྱས་ཆོག
Notice that two files will have the same name but a different extension.
ཡིག་ཆ་གཉིས་པོ་དེར་མིང་གཅིག་མཚུངས་དགོས། ཡིན་ནའང་མཐུད་སྣེ་མི་འདྲ་བ་རེ་ཡོད་དགོས་པར་དོ་སྣང་བྱ་རྒྱུ། ཡིག་ཆ་གཅིག་ནི་གཏག་མིག་མཉེན་ཆས་ཡིན་ལ། ཅིག་ཤོས་རྟགས་གཟུགས་དེ་ཡིན། གལ་ཏེ་keylayout but no corresponding .icns མཐུད་སྣེ་ཡིག་ཆ་ཞིག་ཡོད་ཚེ། འདིས་གཏག་མིག་ལ་ད་རུང་རྟགས་གཟུགས་ཤིག་བཟོས་མེད་པ་མཚོན་གྱི་ཡོད། ཡིན་ནའང་གཏག་མིག་མཉེན་ཆས་ཀྱིས་ལས་ཀ་བྱེད་ཀྱི་མེད་པ་མིན།
Step - 2 Installing the Keyboard(s)
རིམ་པ་གཉིས་པ། གཏག་མིག་འཇུག་སྒྲིག་བྱེད་པ།
Install the files ending in .icns and .keylayout to Hard Drive>Library>Keyboard Layouts. You need not copy any other files to that location. IMPORTANT! - Throw the any other older Wylie or Dzongkha keyboards and icons in the trash if you are upgrading to a more recent version.
Log out of the system, then log back in.
མ་ལག་གི་སྒོ་བརྒྱབ་རྗེས། སྒོ་སྐྱར་དུ་ཕྱེ་རྒྱུ།
Navigate to the system preferences labeled "International."
མ་ལག་འདམ་ཀ་ “International.” ཞེས་པའི་སྒང་འགྲོ་རྒྱུ།
Select the Tibetan keyboard(s) you want to make available. You can choose more than one if you have installed multikeyboards.
ཁྱེད་རང་ལ་དགོས་པའི་བོད་ཡིག་གཏག་མིག་འདེམ་རྒྱུ། གལ་ཏེ་ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་སྣ་མང་གཏག་མིག་འཇུག་སྒྲིག་བྱས་ཚར་ཡོད་ཚེ། གཏག་མིག་གཅིག་ལས་མང་བ་འདམ་ཀ་བྱ་ཆོག
Next, exit this window.
འོག་ནས་སྒེ་མིག་འདིའི་སྒོ་རྒྱག་རྒྱུ།
Step - 3 Activating your new keyboard
རིམ་པ་གསུམ་པ། ཁྱེད་རང་གི་གཏག་མིག་གསར་པ་བཀོལ་སྤྱོད་བྱེད་པ།
Open the application in which you want to type Tibetan. TextEdit, iChat, Mail, and Safari support the Xenotype Tibetan font. Other programs may not (such as Word 2004 for Mac). Make sure you have selected a Tibetan Unicode font for use in the application. Then select the Tibetan keyboard from the bar (or from the input mode palette).

That's all there is to it. Remember to switch fonts at the same time you change keyboards. The application you are using may switch you to an approriate font automatically.

Be sure you have read the details on typing Tibetan using the Dzongkha keyboard layout and/or Extended Wylie (EWTS).

It helps to know whether more overall support for Tibetan language in Mac OS X is something we should commonly push for! Also I would very open to the idea of scripting other system Tibetan Unicode keyboards if a need were communicated.
